Large Diameter
Spiral Welded (SAW) Pipes
SAW pipes for water, gas, slurry & structural transmission — high-pressure and large-diameter pipeline projects
Overview
Large Diameter Spiral Welded Pipes are manufactured using the Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) process and are widely used for transmission of water, gas, slurry, and structural applications. These pipes are suitable for high-pressure and large-diameter pipeline projects.
Manufacturing Process
Spiral welded pipe production by submerged arc method is based on using tandem welding technique for joining inside and outside coil edges.
Hot rolled steel coils are passed through preforming and forming rolls where they take a spiral (helical) shape.
The edges are welded internally and externally using submerged arc welding under a protective flux layer to ensure deep penetration and high weld integrity.
Manufactured pipes are cut to the desired lengths at the exit of the pipe machine.
Pipes are subjected to ultrasonic testing and hydrostatic testing to ensure quality and pressure performance.
Types of SAW Pipes
HSAW / SSAW
Helical / Spiral Submerged Arc Welded. Manufactured from hot rolled coils in spiral form. Economical for large diameters.
LSAW
Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welded. Manufactured from steel plates with longitudinal seam welding. Used for high-pressure and critical applications.
DSAW
Double Submerged Arc Welded. Welded from both inside and outside for full penetration and superior strength, commonly used in oil & gas transmission.
